A very large data center moved in next to a very small town. You have dynamite, a wrecking ball and a bulldozer.

How to play

The job. Level the data center before its pollution swallows the town. The map starts clean. A grey tide creeps out from the building, and the POLLUTION bar fills as it goes. If it reaches the edge of the map, the town is lost.

Fighting the smog. It is a tug of war, not a timer. The more health the data center has lost, the slower the smog spreads, and every wing you reduce to rubble shoves it back. Finish the job and the whole map heals at once. The cleaner the map when you win, the bigger your clean-air bonus. Pausing and shopping stop the clock.

TNT. Four sticks that recharge over time. Tap a wing to plant one. The fuse burns for two and a half seconds. A blast sets off any other TNT it catches, and fuel tanks go up like free dynamite. TNT is dirty: every blast nudges the smog outward a little.

Crane. Tap a target and the wrecking ball swings. It is ready again the moment it comes back, so keep tapping. The ball is the clean tool.

Dozer. Send it at a wall and it grinds for four seconds, drives home and cools down. Send it at a wrecked wing and it scrapes the pile flat: a bare slab pays $150 and the Operator can never rebuild on it. A wing it grinds down itself gets scraped on the spot.

The building. It is one building in nine pieces, and each piece breaks on its own: cracked, blown open, rubble. The armoured core on the roof only opens once four wings are down. What is inside cannot be finished off until every wing is rubble, so it is always the last thing standing.

Three special wings. They are always on the side you can see, and the townsfolk explain each one the first time it matters. FUEL STORE, the left wing with the pipe riser and red drums: it goes up in a fireball when it falls and singes the wings beside it, so drop it while its neighbours still stand. POWER HALL, on the right, fed by the high-voltage line from the pylons: while it stands the Operator attacks more often. SERVER HALL, at the front, lit in green neon with a dish on the roof: it pays double cash for every point of damage. Which right-hand and front wing get the job changes with the date. Hover a wing for the short version.

The Operator fights back. Once you have done real damage, the thing in the core starts hitting back, and it always warns you first. Early on he mostly locks wings down; later, with rubble to restore, he mostly rebuilds. SURGE: the core strobes red, then the smog lunges outward. BACKUP POWER: a wing you wrecked starts rebuilding under a green field; hit the pile before the bar fills and you foil it, or scrape it flat with the dozer so he never can. LOCKDOWN: hazard shutters slam down over a wing for fifteen seconds; work somewhere else until they lift.

Combos and score. One point for every point of damage, times your combo multiplier. Blasts, ball hits and collapsing sections build the combo. The window to keep it alive shrinks as it grows, so mix your tools and set up chain reactions.

Cash and the shop. You earn $1 per point of damage. The cottage with the SHOP sign by the gate sells Super Dynamite, a Mega Dozer sortie, a Spiked Ball for the crane, and a Crop Duster: a plane that sprays the whole map and shoves the smog back a long way, the moment you buy it. Expensive, and it only works once the smog is out past the fence. The run pauses while you browse. Cash you keep turns into points at the end.

Difficulty. Pick it on the title screen. Easy slows the smog and makes every wing you drop push it back further; Hard does the opposite. Each difficulty has its own leaderboard, and Hard wins score x1.3.

The map. The town is the same every day, but the yard is not: where the fuel tanks and generators sit, which chiller bays are in use, which cottage is the shop and which wings carry the power and server jobs all change with the date. Everyone in the world gets the same layout on the same day.

Controls. Computer: click to use a tool, keys 1 to 4 pick one, B opens the shop, P pauses, R restarts, M mutes. Phone: drag to look around, pinch to zoom, tap to use a tool.

Why this exists

Data centers are having a moment. So is AI, and so are the people who run the companies building it. Depending on who you ask it is the future, a bubble, a miracle, or the reason the water bill went up.

Plenty of people have feelings about a windowless box the size of a shopping mall turning up next to their town: the power it draws, the water it drinks, the hum that never stops. Those feelings are real, and they do not have many outlets. A planning meeting is one. This is another.

So here is a tiny pixel town, one very large building, and a wrecking ball. It is catharsis with a high score. Nobody gets hurt, nothing real gets broken, and the river turns blue at the end.

The serious bit: this is a cartoon. Please do not damage, threaten or trespass on real data centers, or give grief to the people who work in them. It is dangerous, it is a crime, and it would not fix the thing you are angry about. If you want a say in what gets built near you, the boring tools work better: turn up to the zoning hearing, ask hard questions about water and power, vote. Then come back here and take it out on the pixels.

The Operator is a made-up cartoon villain, not a portrait of anyone. No accounts, no cookies, no ads. The leaderboard stores only what it shows. Ground tiles by Kenney (CC0). Font: Press Start 2P (OFL). Palette: ENDESGA 32.
